83-year-old Alzheimer driver fined for driving against traffic

LUMUT: An 83-year-old driver with Alzheimer’s disease who was caught on video driving against the traffic along km 211 of West Coast Expressway received a traffic summons from the police on Wednesday.

Manjung district police chief ACP Nor Omar Sappi issued a statement that the police managed to trace the driver after the video of a Mercedes going against traffic went viral on social media.

Police issued a traffic summons based on Section 79(2) of Road Transport Act that the driver failed or neglected to conform to the indication given by the traffic sign. The maximum fine for such an offense is RM5,000.

Investigation showed the driver was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
