MELAKA, Jan 15 (Sin Chew Daily) — A local businesswoman whose three-decade-old shoe business has wound up as a result of an unpredictable switch in government policy said she had planned to turn her shoe shops into phone shops.

During an interview with Sin Chew Daily, Ms Wong said she had closed both her shoe shops in Melaka and turned them into phone shops.

She said the shops are now under renovation and she would not change her mind even if the education ministry decides to reverse the "black shoe" policy.

She also said she had already donated most of her white shoes worth more than RM100,000 to those needing them and had no more stock left. So, there wouldn't be any change to her plan to switch to phone business.

"Most of my white shoes have been given away and the two shops will be converted to phone shops soon.

"The shops are now under renovation and I won't change my mind."

When asked about her feelings for the education ministry's plan to reintroduce the "white shoe" policy, she said she simply felt helpless and couldn't do anything about it.

"My husband and I are both old now and most of our white shoes have been given away. It is impossible for us to restart the shoe business."
