JOHOR BAHRU (Sin Chew Daily) — Johor Bahru Tiong Hua Federation president Datuk Seri Tey Kim Chai said the Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards organized by Sin Chew Daily helps enhance the concepts of corporate management and development.

He said during the Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards roadshow in Johor Bahru that the awards has offered a platform for local businesses to communicate and interact while offering them great opportunities to upgrade themselves.

He said businesses need to transform themselves in the face of rapid changes taking place in the business world today, adding that they need to leverage on their own strengths and understand their own weaknesses in order to survive in the competitive world.

Johor Bahru Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry secretary-general Chan Wah Yann said in his speech that further cooperation among the ten Asean member states provide substantially larger marketplace as well as greater challenges for Malaysian businesses. As such, he said business owners must keep upgrading themselves in order to compete.

He said Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards is not merely an industrial award, but it also allows businesses to see their own inadequacies and how they should strengthen themselves sob that their companies could grow more robustly.

MCIL Multimedia Sdn Bhd general manager for sales and marketing Lenny Chiah said the Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards was established with the objective of helping local SMEs improve themselves continually.

Cheah, who is also the Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards working committee chairman, said it would be a rare opportunity for established companies to win the recognition through an award contest organized by a Malaysian Chinese media company.

She also provided a detailed account on the rules and regulations as well as eligibility for the business awards, while Grant Thornton Malaysia partner Desmond Tan elaborated on the selection criteria.

Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards is divided into eight categories, namely Lifetime Excellence Achievement Award, Business Excellence Person of the Year Award, Business Sustainability Excellence Award, Retail Excellence Award, Product & Service Quality Excellence Award, CSR Excellence Award, Property Excellence Award, and Young / Emerging Business Excellence Award.
