SHAH ALAM — The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Hua Zong) president Tan Sri Pheng Yin Huah said Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards had tremendously helped the local SMEs and national economy and would serve as a perfect platform leading to the One Belt One Road initiative.
He said the award event had seen remarkable progress since its inception several years ago and had won the support of many Malaysian businesses and contributed positively towards the country's economy.
"SME is a pivotal sector in the country's economy and a locomotive of the country's industrialization. Even large companies have their beginnings as SMEs," he told Sin Chew Daily after attending the launching ceremony of the fourth edition of Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards 2016 here.
Pheng said the One Belt One Road initiative was a very important part in the economic development of Malaysia and he hoped Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards would help local businesses understand better the vast opportunities offered.
He also said Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards had provided an excellent platform for local SMEs to learn, especially young generation entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners.
"Very soon One Belt One Road will have Malaysia connected to the rest of the region and we need to be adequately prepared for it. Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards provides such a platform for us to learn more about it."
Pheng said among the many award events held throughout the year in the country, Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards was unique in the sense that it covered much broader aspects, adding that the event had itself developed into a household brand since it was started three years ago.
"The newly set up category 'Digital and Technology Business Excellence Award' is yet another breakthrough. I hope more categories will be made available in the further to encourage the participation of more broad-based businesses.
