Coffee shops ‘half open’ from tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 17 (Sin Chew Daily) — Malaysia-Singapore Coffee Shop Proprietors' General Association president Ho Su Mong said beginning tomorrow all coffee shops in the country will operate in a "half open" manner, meaning customers will only order takeaway food and no eat-in is permitted.

This is the first time coffee shops in the country are operating in this manner, which is necessary in line with the government's movement control order as a result of worsening coronavirus outbreak.

When contacted by Sin Chew Daily, Ho said this is only a temporary measure until the end of the month. He urged customers and consumers to be patient and hope the outbreak will be over soon.

The association has already issued notices to its more than 20,000 members.

"Customers are not allowed to sit inside the shop and chat, but takeaway and delivery services will be provided."
