UNHCR to help track Rohingya tabligh participants

PETALING JAYA, Mar 20 (Sin Chew Daily) — The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) says the involved refugee communities in the country will cooperate with the authorities to track down Rohingyas who attended the tabligh event at Masjid Seri Petaling in Kuala Lumpur from February 27 to March 1.

In an e-mail reply to a question from Sin Chew Daily, the UNHCR says it has been working closely with the health ministry ever since the start of the coronavirus outbreak to ensure that refugee communities in the country are included in the government's measures to tackle the outbreak.

UNHCR says it will advise refugees who attended the aforementioned event to go for COVID-19 testing, adding that it is prepared to assist the authorities in tracking down the participants as well as people coming into close contact with them.

"We have set up a website to help all refugees, asylum seekers and refugee support organizations to obtain information for assistance."
