Dewan Rakyat seating reveals Muhyiddin has 112 +1 support

KUALA LUMPUR (Sin Chew Daily) — The latest seating arrangement in Dewan Rakyat released on Sunday night has revealed the number of members of parliament supporting Prime Minister Muhyiddin.

The updated seating arrangement shows the ruling government led by Muhyiddin has a total of 112 members of parliament plus an independent member of parliament Lubok Antu MP Jugah Muyang who signed a declaration to support Muhyiddin, making the number to 113. 

There are 109 opposition MPs without Jugah.

The website of parliament Malaysia lists a total of 112 members of parliament form the ruling coalition. The government is made up of 31 members of parliament from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia ( excluding Sri Gading MP Shahruddin Md Salleh who resigned from deputy minister post), 39 from Umno, two from Malaysian Chinese Association, one from Malaysian Indian Congress and 18 from Malaysian Islamic Party. A total of 18 members of parliament are from Gabungan Parti Sarawak, one from Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah, one from Parti Bersatu Sabah and one from Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku Rakyat Sabah.

For the opposition,  it has a total of 103 members of parliament where 38 members of parliament are from Parti Keadilan Rakyat, 42 from Democratic Action Party, 11 from Parti Amanah Negara, nine from Parti Warisan Sabah, one from United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation and two from Parti Sarawak Bersatu.

A total of six members of parliament are independent – former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, four former Bersatu members and Jugah.

Although the website of Parliament of Malaysia still lists Shahruddin who has quit the party under Bersatu, the seating arrangement shows Shahruddin is an independent member of parliament. He is not seated with other members of parliament under Bersatu.

The Dewan Rakyat Speaker Mohamad Ariff bin Md Yusof was replaced by Azhar Azizan Harun with a total of 111 votes supporting the motion and 109 against.

Dewan Rakyat is comprised of 222 members of parliament. Deputy Speaker Mohd Rashid Hasnon who is aligned to Perikatan Nasional (the ruling government) chaired the sitting and he did not vote. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Dr Maximus Ongkili who is also the president of PBS was on medical leave. He was absent and did not vote.  The Perikatan Nasional was left with 111 members of parliament in the Dewan Rakyat.
