RM300 fine for patrons providing fake details at restaurants

KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 (Sin Chew Daily) — Patrons who are caught providing fake IC numbers or phone details at restaurants are liable to a fine of RM300.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador confirmed news circulated on the social media that dine-in patrons would be slapped with RM300 fine for recording fake IC or phone numbers in eateries.

He said the police would carry out impromptu raids to check the record books kept by restaurants with the details of dine-in patrons.

He said this is one of the measures adopted by the police to ensure that patrons' details on the record books are correct.

Abdul Hamid said it was important for members of the public to abide by the regulations of recovery movement control order (RMCO) so that the authorities could easily trace those coming into contact with people infected with COVID-19.

He said the police had set up a team to monitor the record books kept by restaurants to ensure that the details recorded are genuine information.

It is learned that some patrons intentionally filled in fake names or phone numbers to conceal their personal information.
