No heatwave in country: Met

PETALING JAYA, Aug 10 (Sin Chew Daily) — According to the meteorological department, the country's daytime temperatures will remain at 32 to 34 degrees Celsius over the next one week, which is normal for the month of August.

Meteorological department director-general Jailan Simon told Sin Chew Daily daytime air temperatures so far this month have been normal with the exception of a higher-than-normal temperature of 36.1°C recorded in Temerloh, Pahang on Sunday.

He explained that the weather felt hot over these few days because of the southwest monsoon which causes many places in the country to experience cloudless sky with reduced rainfall.

Jailan said only a handful of places will have scattered rains over the next few days.

He also said so far the country has not experienced any heatwave, which is defined as excessively hot weather above 37°C for three consecutive days or more.
