PAC chairman to be named before current session ends

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Sin Chew Daily) – The current parliamentary session will end next week, but the new Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman has yet to be named.

During an interview with Sin Chew Daily, minister in the prime minister's department Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said the government would definitely select new members of the PAC before the current session ends.

He said the government had agreed to reserve the PAC chairmanship for the opposition, and that the opposition had already submitted the candidate's name to the parliamentary select committee.

"From what I know, they have only submitted one name, that is DAP's Ipoh Timur MP Wong Kah Woh."

Wong was formerly PAC vice chairman.

Takiyuddin said the PN government was also prepared to nominate Beaufort MP Azizah Mohd Dun, who was deputy women's minister, as the committee's vice chairman.

He said the parliamentary select committee had yet to make a final decision on this matter.

"We know it's very late now, but we will select the new members before the current parliamentary session ends."

Meanwhile, a source told Sin Chew Daily the PN government does not want a DAP representative as PAC chairman and hopes a more senior MP would be appointed to the post.

So far Pakatan Harapan has only submitted Wong Kah Woh's name to the committee.
