Some Umno SC members to stick to PN govt

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 (Sin Chew Daily) – Several Umno supreme council members are more inclined towards defending the Perikatan Nasional government and not to break ties with prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Umno supreme council will make a final decision in its meeting tomorrow whether to retract the party's support for the PN government.

Deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said during an interview with Sin Chew Daily that Umno is unhappy with PN, but not to the extent it has to quit the coalition, adding that the party would renegotiate with PPBM the conditions for continued cooperation.

"The political bureau's decision is not to break ties with PPBM but we need to renegotiate the terms of cooperation."

He said Umno is unhappy that PPBM has taken away some of the powers and posts belonging to Umno, including the Sabah chief minister and Perak menteri besar posts.

Besides Mohamad Hasan , several other Umno supreme council members contacted by Sin Chew Daily also said it is not necessary to break ties with Muhyiddin.

Vice president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said Umno has not demanded deputy prime minster post or appointment of senior party lawmakers as cabinet minsters, from the prime minister. He said this was just speculation of supreme council member Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman and the media.

Meanwhile, Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said the party is firm in not working with DAP and Parti Keadilan Rakyat president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
