KUANTAN, Nov 4 (Sin Chew Daily) – An air-condition technician who tried to save his colleague accidentally fell from high ground and suffered severe head injuries.

Liu Guo Jun, 22, from Kampung Tengah, Kuantan, was later diagnosed brain dead by doctors at Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital.

His family signed the consent form to donate Liu's heart, corneas and kidneys to give others a new lease of life.

Liu's widow Wu Wen Lin, 21, said Liu was repairing an air conditioner at Padang Lalang industrial area with a colleague on October 28 when the accident took place.

Liu was trying to save his colleague from falling from a high ground, as the latter had missed a step. He ended up with severe head injuries and was subsequently pronounced brain dead by the doctors.

Wu recalled that Liu kept expressing his love for her on the day before he went to work.

She was puzzled by his unusual expression as Liu was shy and conservative.

"Normally I would wake him up but on that day he woke up before me. He kept telling me he loved me, and hugged and kissed me," said Wu.

The couple had known each other since 2016 and tied the knot this July after four years.

They were forced to defer the wedding reception on October 4 due to the lockdown imposed to curb the COVID-19 pandemic.

Liu was cremated on November 2.

Liu's mother Cai Mei Qing, 47, said she rushed to the hospital after learning about Liu's fall. Doctors were trying to save Liu's life. After five hours of waiting, doctors finally told her Liu was diagnosed as brain dead from head injuries.

When medical staff approached the family to consider organ donation, Cai said: "My son was young and healthy. His organs were in good conditions. By donating his organs, we can offer others a new lease of life and he still lives on in another way," she said.

Cai said Liu, her eldest son, had been working as an air-con technician for three years.

"He is kind and helpful. We were happy he was about to get married but never expected a tragedy," she said.
