IPOH, Dec 30 (Sin Chew Daily) — Road from Brinchang to Kea Farm in Cameron Highlands is heavily congested for the entire day as local tourists spend their year-end vacations visiting the highland starting Christmas Eve.

As the government has lifted the interstate travel ban imposed during the movement control order (MCO) to curb the COVID-19 pandemic, many took the opportunity to visit Cameron Highlands during the Christmas long weekend, and the hill resort experienced its worst traffic congestion since the implementation of MCO.

The traffic congestion showed no sign of easing after the Christmas weekend as many were still on year-end break until the New Year.

Tourists who visited Cameron Highlands posted photos of traffic congestion on social media. Some caught in the standstill for over 20 minutes.

Zheng Ya Mei, a Cameron Highlands tour guide, said a 30-minute drive from Brinchang to Kea Farm now takes more than one hour.

"There is no alternative route for this stretch of road. Many transporters are caught in the jam despite having to deliver greens to the market," she said.

Zheng said her niece who works at Kg Raja where she has to commute daily from Ringlet, has requested for permission to work from home due to the jam.

"The traffic jam here starts at 9am and lasts till 6pm," she said, adding that the road from Ringlet to Tanah Rata is also jammed.

She believes many are taking the vacation after staying home for such a long period of time due to the MCO.
