Great potential in post-pandemic Sino-Malaysian trade

PETALING JAYA, Dec 31 (Sin Chew Daily) — The collaboration between Malaysia and China on import is set to have expanded potential in post COVID-19 era, including the establishment of a Malaysian innovative township in Qinzhou Industrial Park, says Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing.

"I believe the implementation of Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) will see China and Malaysia on the same path in terms of development.

"We will encourage more companies in the field of new technology and digital economy to invest in Malaysia. We will also liaise with key agencies in China to provide more training and opportunities to exchange skills for Malaysian companies," said Ouyang. 

Ouyang said in a virtual meeting with representatives from the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Malaysia (ACCCIM) that the Chinese Embassy would shoulder the responsibility to ensure both countries are in close communication and extend assistance to ACCCIM.

Both countries will continue with the tradition of working together and make adjustments according to the new normal to promote trade developments between China and Malaysia with new concept and faster pace, said Ouyang.

The ambassador said he was glad to be able to witness the Chinese culture and a complete set of Chinese education flourishing in Malaysia, including the contribution of Chinese education in Malaysia-China ties and nation-building.

ACCCIM president Tan Sri Datuk Ter Leong Yap and other ACCCIM representatives were at the virtual meeting with Ouyang for more than one hour.

Both sides were looking forward to continued collaboration and to scale new heights in bilateral trade.

Topics discussed during the virtual meeting included the 16th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Conference, 100th anniversary of ACCCIM, COVID-19 pandemic, vaccine development, reciprocal green lane between China and Malaysia, China International Import Expo, Malaysia-China Entrepreneurs Conference, the Malaysia innovative township at Qinzhou Industrial Park, new technology and digital economy, technical job training and others.

Ter also introduced ACCCIM to Ouyang and the role the association played in Malaysia. Ouyang was also invited to attend the 100th anniversary of ACCCIM next year.

ACCCIM representatives hoped to expedite the Malaysia-China Reciprocal Green Lane and expressed their gratitude to China for honoring the promise to purchase 1.7 million tons of palm oil from Malaysia before 2023.
