KLANG, Apr 22 (Sin Chew Daily) – Many people have lost their jobs during the pandemic, and some even have problem putting food on the table to feed their families.

Initially, the charity project carried out by Love and Care Charitable Association Selangor benefited only around 30 hungry people, but with the support of more generous members of the public and volunteers, over 400 people now benefit from this project.

As a matter of fact, we have seen an increasing number of soup kitchens emerging in Klang Valley in recent years, providing free meals regularly to the needy and hungry in town.

Love and Care Charitable Association Selango secretary Datuk Lim Mooi Choo told Sin Chew Daily the association came to understand that many people have lost their sources of income during the pandemic, and that putting food on the table has become a luxury for them.

"During the pandemic, we have tried to locate people who are starving so that we can provide them with food and dignity as human being."

Lim emphasized that anyone in need, irrespective of race or background, would get equal treatment from the association.

Since its inception seven years ago, Love and Care Charitable Association Selangor has offered the much needed assistance to over 400 households. The association's central kitchen now prepares three meals a day for some 400 people.

"It's actually not easy to prepare so much food at one time. I must thank all the volunteers for their dedication."

Meanwhile, the association's president Tan Sri Lim Soon Peng said the association's mission is to help end hunger, offering assistance to the underprivileged so that they, too, can feel the warmth of the society and be free of hunger, as it strives to create a harmonious society.

Thanks to the generous support from the public as well as local businesses, the central kitchen has been able to stock up enough food materials to prepare delicious and nutritious meals for the needy.

To ensure that the beneficiaries are people who really need the help, he said the association would normally visit the families in order to get to know more about their conditions before providing them with the appropriate assistance.

"We'll continue to distribute food to the needy for as long as we can still do so."

Other than distributing cooked meals, the association also gives away groceries to the needy.
