Girl’s father forgives classmate threatening to rape daughter

PETALING JAYA, Apr 28 (Sin Chew Daily) — Teenage girl Ain Husniza Saiful Nizam's father Saiful Nizam Ab Wahab has forgiven her classmate who threatened to rape her, after the boy apologized.

"I have decided to forgive him and not to pursue the matter further," said Saiful Nizam.

The father told Sin Chew Daily that Ain's male classmate was summoned by the police to record his statement at the Sungai Buloh police headquarters. The police officer reprimanded the Form 5 boy who apologized to Ain and her family at the police station.

"He is sincere in his apology and has regretted threatening her.

"Ain and I have decided to forgive him. We do not want to pursue the matter further," said Saidul Nizam, who added that the boy is still a teenager.

In an interview with Astro AEC, Saiful Nizam criticized the Ministry of Education for being unresponsive. He supported Ain for speaking up to correct the inappropriate situation in school.

Ain exposed a male teacher for allegedly making rape jokes in class. She brought up the matter with her counselor at school and class teacher too, but the teachers just ignored her complaint.

Fearing for her safety, Ain subsequently lodged a police report after a classmate threatened to rape her.

"As a father, I believe the teachers would do their best to teach the students. But the Ministry of Education has remained silent so far. I am angry and disappointed," he lamented.

Saiful Nizam said he did not want the complaint to be swept under the carpet as this could happen to other schools, too.

Ain said she exposed the ordeal to raise public awareness on unfair situation happening in school.

Ain tweeted that she did not disclose the names of her school and the teacher because she believed that others face similar situation too.

"This is not the problem in my school only. I only know how terrible I felt after going through the entire episode," she said.

Ain also said she hoped the other students facing similar situation would also speak up.

"I have done that. Others should do the same to voice the unacceptable behavior in school," she said.
