Umno ministers will not quit their posts

KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 (Sin Chew Daily) – Several Umno ministers have told prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin they will not quit their ministerial posts.

A source told Sin Chew Daily the Umno supreme council meeting last night indeed talked about the Perikatan Nasional government, and the final decision was to remain in the PN government but withdraw its support for Muhyiddin.

As such, the source said Umno ministers would keep their posts and the question of ministers resigning does not exist.

"Although this may not be the best arrangement, in order to battle the virus and continue with the various assistance packages for the people, this is the most appropriate arrangement for now.

"Umno has decided to remain in the PN government and therefore there is no question of the ministers quitting their posts."

The source also said it is unlikely for Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to refer ministers reluctant to quit their ministerial posts to the party's disciplinary committee, as such a move could trigger tremendous backlash within the party.

"Ministers who met the prime minister this morning have reiterated their position of not quitting their government posts."
