IPOH, July 11 (Sin Chew Daily) — A fleet of airport taxis parked at the vacant land in front of Kwan Yin Tong Temple along Jalan Gopeng here are up for sale.

Various types of vehicles – from five-seaters to SUVs, all in blue, are aged between seven and 11 years that have been used as airport taxis in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

Mugan, senior executive at RNEX Engineering Sdn Bhd, told Sin Chew Daily his company bid for a total of 302 units of airport taxis and transported them from Rawang to Ipoh.

150 vehicles are currently parked at the vacant plot and lorries are making trips to transport more of the taxis to Ipoh.

Mugan said his company had previously bid for various types of cars used as airport taxis, including Proton Saga, Proton Waja, Nissan Serena, Toyota Innova, Kia Optima, Hunyai Sonata and Naza Citra.

About a quarter of the taxis were SUVs, he said.

The sight of many airport taxis attracted the attention of potential buyers. 

"Vehicle prices range from RM5,000 for a Proton Waja to RM40,000 for a Nissan Serena.

"The mileage of the Nissan Serena is only 275km and the seats are still covered with plastic bags like a brand new car," he said.

Buyers were required to settle the custom levy in addition to the purchase price.

Mugan said the taxis could be used as commercial vehicles or converted for private use by sending the vehicles for a B5 inspection at Puspakom.

Most of the taxis are still in good conditions while some require only basic maintenance such as change of tires, servicing of air-condition and others.

Members of the public can purchase the vehicles at prices lower than the market rates. Test drive can be carried out at the vacant land too.
