Selangor Sultan orders aid for affected students regardless of religious background in gas pipeline explosion

PETALING JAYA: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has directed the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) to assist students affected by the gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights regardless of their religious background.

MAIS chairman Datuk Salehuddin Saidin, in a statement, said the Sultan instructed MAIS to support students whose education have been disrupted by the explosion through Yayasan Islam Darul Ehsan (YIDE), which focuses on assisting Muslim orphans and providing disaster relief within the state.

His Royal Highness ordered funds from the Infak Jariah Umat Islam Selangor (Tijari) be allocated to YIDE to facilitate financial assistance for the affected students.

Following the Sultan’s directive, YIDE is extending aid to non-Muslim students, said Salehuddin.

he Sultan also expressed sorrow over the explosion and extended his sympathies to the victims and their families.

Those affected by the explosion were urged to remain resilient in facing the ordeal.

Salehuddin, together with MAIS deputy chairman Tan Sri Mazlan Mansor, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussain Omar Khan and state Islamic Religion and Innovation Culture Exco Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah were summoned by the Sultan to discuss aid for the gas pipeline explosion victims.

MAIS would collaborate with relevant agencies to assist students with school uniforms, stationery, books and other learning materials, said Salehuddin.

“YIDE will also cooperate with the Selangor state government to provide transportation assistance for students affected by the explosion, ensuring they can travel to and from school during the recovery period,” he added.

The Sultan instructed mosque and surau management teams, particularly those near Putra Heights, to be prepared to open their premises as temporary relief centres.

“His Majesty further ordered that prayers in these mosques and suraus should proceed as usual, without disruption, even if they are being used as relief centres,” he said.

Salehuddin also called on the Muslim community to pray for all affected individuals, regardless of race, ethnicity, or religion.
