SHAH ALAM (Sin Chew Daily) — The seventh edition of Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards 2019 is now open for registration and nomination. Closing date is June 15.

During the recent launch of Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards 2019 at Setia City Convention Centre, MCIL Multimedia Sdn Bhd chief executive Mr Keu Tien Siong said the annual award event had become a coveted event among SMEs in Malaysia due to the professionalism with its vetting procedures and the active participation of many business organizations in the country.

He said the organizers were facing a mounting pressure as more and more SMEs were taking part in the event over the years, adding that it was impossible for all contestants to be awarded as there was an elimination rate of more than 20% each year.

He also encouraged companies which had failed to get an award to try again this year.

Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards 2019 is jointly organized by Sin Chew Daily and Sinchew.com.my under MCIL Multimedia Sdn Bhd. Among the supporting partners are Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Hua Zong), Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM), Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA), Malaysia Entrepreneurs’ Development Association (PUMM), Branding Association of Malaysia (BAM), SME Association of Malaysia, National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM), Malaysian Institute of Corporate Governance (MICG), Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC), China Entrepreneurs Association in Malaysia (PUCM), Malaysia Retailers Association (MRA) and Asean Retail-Chains Franchise Federation (ARFF).

There are a total of 12 award categories this year, namely Lifetime Excellence Achievement, Business Excellence Person of the Year, Business Sustainability Excellence Award, CIMB–Sin Chew Regional Excellence Awards, Retail Excellence Award, Product Excellence Award, Business Service Excellence Award, Manufacturing Excellence Award, Digital and Technology Business Excellence Award, CSR Excellence Award, Property Excellence Award, and Young/Emerging Business Excellence Award.

Ter: Need to boost productivity

President of Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) Tan Sri Datuk Ter Leong Yap said during the launching ceremony that starting a business is not an easy or straightforward thing.

Indeed, he said, the journey was full of setbacks and challenges.

“Since we have the courage to start a business, we must also have the determination to persist.

“We must not give up just because of an occasional setback, or we won’t be able to succeed in our business.”

He went on to say, “We need to keep coming up with new products and innovative technologies while constantly exploring new markets and new business models.

“A company needs to have continuous innovation in order to sustain its operation.”

Ter said ACCCIM had recently decided to set up a career education and training consultation committee to groom more local entrepreneurs towards the eventual goal of setting up the ACCCIM Academy.

He also said a country needed to boost its productivity in order to lift the income levels of its people, and to do that, full cooperation between the government and local businesses was necessary.
