Driving the growth of SMEs

Hooi Kok Mun, Senior Partner of Grant Thornton Malaysia told
Sin Chew Daily many participating companies started as small outfit but have grown tremendously over the years and become more reputable in the market.

He went on to say that companies taking part in Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards have grown not only in business scale but also quality.

Meanwhile, Grant Thornton Malaysia Senior Partner Desmond Tan said Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards have managed to receive more than 200 registrations every year, and that many of the participating companies have since gone public.

“While making Malaysia their base, many of these companies have set their sights far and wide. They have contributed significantly to the country’s economy as well as the society.

“Although they are only SMEs, they are moving in the direction of large companies.”

He also said SMEs must be adequately prepared in the face of globalization and must strengthen their expertise, resources and technologies to stay afloat.
