PETALING JAYA (Sin Chew Daily) — The evaluation of participants of the fifth edition of Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards has come to a conclusion, and winners will be formally notified late August.

Touted as one of the most reputed award presentation events in this country, Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards 2017 is a form of recognition for the most outstanding performers in major business management behaviors.

Jointly organized by Sin Chew Daily and Sinchew.com.my under MCIL Multimedia Sdn Bhd, Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards 2017 is exclusively sponsored by CIMB Bank Berhad, and Grant Thornton Malaysia is the auditor for the event.

In conjunction with Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards’ fifth anniversary, the slogan for this year’s event will be “Celebrating Five Years of Excellence”.

There are a total of 12 award categories this year, namely Lifetime Excellence Achievement, Business Excellence Person of the Year, Business Sustainability Excellence Award, CIMB–Sin Chew Regional Excellence Awards, Retail Excellence Award, Product Excellence Award, Business Service Excellence Award, Manufacturing Excellence Award, Digital and Technology Business Excellence Award, CSR Excellence Award, Property Excellence Award, and Young/ Emerging Business Excellence Award.

Among the supporting partners are Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Hua Zong), Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM), Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA), Malaysia Retailers Association (MRA), Malaysia Entrepreneurs’ Development Association (PUMM), Branding Association of Malaysia (BAM), SME Association of Malaysia, National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM), Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC), China Entrepreneurs Association in Malaysia (PUCM), Asean Retail-Chains Franchise Federation (ARFF) and Malaysian Institute of Corporate Governance (MICG). Other partners include Skynet, Fine Paper Takeo Sdn Bhd and Setia City Convention Centre.

Very encouraging response

“I was tasked with the responsibility of evaluating contestants in the IT sector. I noticed that there were vast differences in the company sizes of contestants. We had public listed companies as well as very humble businesses,” said MCIL Multimedia Sdn Bhd chief executive Keu Tien Siong.

“Unfortunately some of the contestants did not provide all the information required by the panel of judges, causing them to lose their chances.

“I hope those who fail to win an award this year will come back again next year.”

Grant Thornton Malaysia partner Hooi Kok Mun said more and more local businesses were taking part in this year’s event, which was a very encouraging sign.

“More companies have seen the benefits of taking part in Sin Chew Business Excellence Awards, which provides an excellent platform tor them to interact and learn from one another.

“Professional consultancy firms like us can share with them how to expand their businesses and benefit from the government’s incentive programs.

“Winning an award is therefore of secondary importance. Most importantly they are able to broaden their connections and scopes of visions through this event.”

Meanwhile, Grant Thornton Malaysia senior partner Desmond Tan said the organizers had received more and more applications over the past five years.

“I have seen that our business leaders have worked so hard to appraise the contestants. It is therefore not easy for the winners to stand out among so many competitors.

“Along the way I have discovered that many of them have become bigger and stronger as they venture beyond the Malaysian shores to oversea markets.”
